Ways to give
The University of Tartu Foundation awards scholarships to students, researchers and academics, and helps to collect donations to fulfill important goals for the University of Tartu. The donations allow us to support the continuation of students' education, recognize ther best students, academics and researchers, and cultivate a strong academic aftergrowth for the University of Tartu's research community.
Thanks to our supporters, we have awarded scholarships to 3,000 outstanding students and researchers totaling over 4.9 million euros.
Donate to the University of Tartu Support Fund
There are several ways to make donations - you can make a donation to existing funds, create a new named scholarship fund, or support ongoing campaigns.
- The support fund has more than 100 sub-funds, from which you can choose the one you like best.
- We have ongoing donation campaigns through which you can do a good deed to the widest possible target group. This is a good opportunity if you have a general desire to support the students and researchers of the University of Tartu.

Collect donations for anniversaries
By asking to support an existing foundation or a foundation you have established in the support fund instead of gifts, you have the opportunity to support the University of Tartu and research and teaching, academic family and students in an area that is important to you.
Turn your legacy into a memorial fund
A legacy made on the basis of a will is one way to perpetuate your name for future generations, as well as share the values you have created with the future generations. Charitable legacy is a good practice widely spread in the Western world. You do not have to leave all your assets to relatives, you can also give something back to society. Many have received a university education for free - making your will to the university is an opportunity to express gratitude for providing the skills and knowledge necessary for life and thereby help young students achieve their goals.
With a will, you can bequeath all your assets or specific items to the university (a sum of money, a library, valuable art, real estate, stocks, etc.). Bequest of a specific asset is called a bequest. A will can be drawn up by a notary, who will help you write down all the instructions correctly. The last will and testament can also be drawn up from beginning to end by yourself, or if it is drawn up by someone else, it must be signed by the testator in the presence of two impartial witnesses. Such home wills are valid for 6 months and need to be constantly renewed. In the will, it would be correct to name the University of Tartu Foundation as the heir instead of the University of Tartu, since the foundation's purpose is to raise funds to support the development of the university.
The will can specify the purpose of the charitable inheritance (for example, supporting students in a certain field). At the request of the testator, a separate special-purpose memorial fund can be established from the assets of the will or the assets can be directed to an already existing fund. It can also be left to the university to decide how to use the assets. If desired, an executor (trustee) can be appointed in the will, who has the right to monitor whether the inheritance is used for its intended purpose.
When resolving the inheritance matter, the notary will contact the university and inform about the right of inheritance. If the will is formalized abroad, the competent authority of the relevant country will contact the university. See more about inheritance and bequests at parimine.notar.ee.
Create a fund named after you
Starting from a one-time donation of 50,000 euros, it is possible to establish a named scholarship fund, The assets of the fund will be managed by the foundation, and scholarships will be paid out of the profit received from the investment of the assets. In this case, the fund will be named after the founder and the purpose of the fund (for example, " Company X Scholarship Fund for History Students"). This is a good opportunity to give the donation a long-term impact, since the contribution made to the fund will be preserved.
With smaller one-time donations, it is possible to establish a scholarship fund that will be named after the fund's purpose or target group (for example, "Scholarship Fund for History Students"). The assets of the fund will be managed by the foundation, and scholarships will be paid out from it every year in an agreed amount until the fund's assets run out.
In addition, it is possible to establish a directly financed named scholarship fund. The assets of the fund won't be managed by the foundation and the donor finances the fund with an agreed frequency. In this case, the scholarship will be named after the founder and the purpose or target group of the fund (for example, " Company X Scholarship Fund for History Students"). The founder transfers the amount required for scholarships to the foundation each year, plus a service fee of 8–10% depending on the size of the donation. The fund is established on the assumption that the founder will support the foundation in the amount of at least 50,000 euros over the years.
