Ways to give
There are several ways to support – donate to existing funds and campaigns, or create a new scholarship fund
University of Tartu Foundation awards scholarships to the University of Tartu students and employees to fulfil important goals. Each donation allows us to support students' continued education, open new opportunities, give recognition, and raise a strong new academic generation for the University of Tartu's research community.
Our scholarship funds welcome donations. You can choose the one linked with your interests and make a one-time donation by selecting "Give" next to the appropriate fund.
Support campaigns allow you to donate to the widest possible target group. This is a good opportunity if you have a general desire to support the University of Tartu.

Create a scholarship fund
Starting with a one-time donation of 50,000 euros, it is possible to establish an endowed named scholarship fund. The assets of the fund are managed by the foundation, and scholarships are paid from the profits generated by investing the assets.
With an annual donation of at least 5,000 euros, it is possible to establish a directly funded named scholarship fund. In this case, the foundation does not manage assets, and the supporter provides funding at an agreed frequency, for example, once a year. The prerequisite for establishing such a fund is that the founder contribute to the fund at least 50,000 euros over a period of 10 years.
With a one-time donation of less than 50,000 euros or an annual donation of less than 5,000 euros, it is possible to establish a directly funded scholarship fund named after the fund's purpose or target group, rather than the founder (for example, "History Students Scholarship Fund"). However, the founder's name is mentioned in the fund's rules or statutes. Alternatively, it is possible to donate to an existing fund within the same limits.

Collect donations for your anniversary
By asking people to support an existing fund or a fund you have established instead of giving gifts, you can support the University of Tartu, as well as research and teaching, the academic community and students in a field that matters to you.
Turn your legacy into a memorial fund
A legacy made by will is one way to perpetuate your name for future generations, as well as pass on the values you have created to future generations. Charitable legacy is a good practice well-established in the Western world. You do not have to leave all your assets to relatives; you can also give a part of it back to society. Many people have received a university education for free – making a will to the university is an opportunity to express gratitude for the skills and knowledge that have shaped your life, and help young students achieve their goals.
With a will, you can leave the university all your assets or specific items (such as money, a personal library, valuable fine art, real estate, stocks, etc.). The bequest of a specific asset is called a legacy. A will can be drawn up by a notary, who will ensure that everything is properly set out. The last will may also be written entirely by hand, or, if drafted by someone else, it must be signed by the testator in the presence of two impartial witnesses. Such privately prepared wills are valid for six months and need regular renewal. In the will, it is appropriate to name the University of Tartu Foundation rather than the University of Tartu as the beneficiary, since the foundation's purpose is to raise and manage funds to support the university's development.
The will can specify the intended use of the charitable bequest (for example, to support students in a certain field). At the testator’s request, a separate special-purpose memorial fund can be established from the assets of the will, or the funds may be directed to an existing fund. The use of the legacy may also be left to the university’s discretion. If desired, an executor (trustee) can be appointed in the will, who has the right to oversee whether the legacy is used according to its intended purpose.
When managing the legacy, the notary will contact the university and inform them of their entitlement. If the will is administered abroad, the competent authority of the relevant country will contact the university. For more information about succession and bequests, see parimine.notar.ee.
