The 2026 professor Peeter Tulviste prize
Description of the Memorial Fund:
The aim of the prize is to support and recognise students and young researchers who are socially active, contribute to the advancement of Estonian society through their outstanding academic and research work, and have made a significant contribution to understanding the cultural nature of humans through their research.
Award amount:
One research prize of 7,000 euros and one master's thesis prize of 3,000 euros will be awarded, which is subject to tax.
Application requirements:
The applicant must be a person up to 40 years old (incl.), with a master's or doctoral degree, studying or working at the University of Tartu, who has made a significant contribution to the understanding of the cultural nature of man through their research. The candidate's research should connect different scientific fields and combine research methodologies in a novel way. The award is awarded for high-quality research published in the previous three years.
The award recipient will be asked to publish a popular science article introducing their research work, e.g. on the ERR Novaator portal, in the cultural newspaper Sirp, etc.
In addition to outstanding research work, the award is also based on the candidate's active attitude towards teaching, contribution to university activities, and participation in discussions concerning the advancement of society and nationality.

- overview of research work and justification of how it has made a significant contribution to understanding the cultural nature of man, including whether and how it connects different scientific fields and in what novel ways research methodologies have been combined (add to the block named Overview of specialised scientific activity or reasearch)
- a web link to the research work (add to the block named Overview of specialised scientific activity or reasearch) or upload the research work as a file to the block additional documents
- letter of recommendation:
- if the research work is a master's or doctoral thesis, then a recommendation from the master's or doctoral thesis supervisor
- if the research work is other high-level research work published or accepted for publication, then a recommendation from the head of the applicant's structural unit
- other documents deemed necessary by the applicant
