Scholarship description:
The 2025 Scholarship for visiting professors from the Estonian Diaspora
has been established to promote cooperation between the University of Tartu's membership and top Estonian researchers worldwide and to introduce the national university and its role. The aim of the scholarship fund is to ensure the participation of researchers and lecturers of estonian descent working abroad in the activities of the University of Tartu for at least one year or, as an exception, one semester.
Number and amount of scholarships:
The scholarship for one academic year (from September to June) is 50,000 euros, the scholarship for one semester (from September to January or from February to June) is 25,000 euros.
Application requirements:
A researcher of Estonian origin who works at a university or research institution outside Estonia can apply for the scholarship.
An Estonian Visiting Professor participates in the university's teaching and research work, gives public lectures at the university and popularizes his or her field of research at the university and throughout Estonia.
When selecting a recipient of the Estonian Visiting Professor Scholarship, the applicant's activities are considered in accordance with the development plans of the university and its fields. The scholarship is awarded based on the candidate's professional success and social activities and the correspondence of their activities to the university's priority research areas.
To apply, an electronic scholarship application must be submitted to the foundation, including:
a biography that includes, among other things, an overview of the applicant's educational background and professional activities;
an overview of the planned activities at the university (including the schedule of their stay in Estonia);
confirmation from the dean of the relevant department of the university about their willingness to employ the applicant.

Scholarship use:
The scholarship recipient will be announced at the anniversary ceremony of the national university on 1 December 2025.
The scholarship will be transferred during the following academic year and is intended for use in the 2026/2027 academic year.
