University of Tartu Seventh Pillar Fund — Tartu Ülikooli Sihtasutus

University of Tartu Seventh Pillar Fund

The Seventh Pillar Fund was established in 1998 to support active and talented students with good academic performance in their studies and research with scholarships. The name of the fund was given by Lennart Meri, the then patron of the University of Tartu Foundation, referring to the seventh pillar as the pillar of wisdom, which symbolizes the role of knowledge and education in society.

The initial capital of the fund was formed from donations from Meelis Milder, Olari Taal, Jaan Männik, Uno Lõhmus (deceased), Urmas Past, Toivo Maimets and Peep Mühls. The first company to support the fund was Eesti Ühispank (now SEB Pank).

Companies and private individuals can make donations to the fund. Students in the last two years of their bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies at the university can apply for the scholarship. The foundation announces a public competition for the scholarship on its website and in the university's information channels.

Through the Seventh Pillar Fund, alumni and supporters can preserve Lennart Meri's legacy and contribute to the development of the national university, and therefore contribute to the spread of wisdom and knowledge.
