The scholarship is intended for bachelor’s and master’s students. Applicants will be assessed based on their academic performance, motivation and previous achievements. Two scholarships will be awarded, with a total value of €5,000.

According to Playtech’s People and Culture Director Karis Reilent, the sustainable development of Estonia’s technology sector depends on how well the next generation of specialists is supported today. “Through this scholarship, Playtech aims to recognise outstanding young talent and contribute to the development of a stronger talent pipeline in the IT sector. It is important to us that Estonia continues to produce ambitious and innovative specialists who will help drive the industry forward,” she explained.

Liina Pruulmann, Playtech’s Product Manager and representative of the company’s Local Community Investments Committee, believes that the University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science combines a strong theoretical foundation with practical skills, preparing students well for success in the rapidly changing world of technology. “In the age of artificial intelligence, in-depth subject knowledge is becoming increasingly important, as it enables people not only to use new technologies but also to understand and develop them further. We hope that this scholarship will help students focus on their studies and support them in completing their degrees successfully,” she said.

According to Pruulmann, the partnership with the University of Tartu is particularly valuable because many Playtech specialists received their education there. The scholarship is therefore also seen as an opportunity to give back to the university community that has helped shape many of the company’s current experts.

According to Tauno Palts, Programme Director of the bachelor’s curriculum in Computer Science at the University of Tartu, students do not acquire knowledge solely in the lecture hall. “Companies can provide IT students with ideas for practical projects, and traineeships form part of all IT curricula. Many students choose to complete their traineeship at Playtech, and we are delighted that, in addition to offering traineeship opportunities, Playtech has decided to support students through scholarships as well," said Palts. He added that traineeships allow students to put their knowledge into practice, solve real-world problems and gain valuable professional experience while still studying.

The first call for applications for the new Playtech scholarship is already open. Both Estonian and international students are welcome to submit their applications on the University of Tartu Foundation website until 15 September.
