Scholarship and Award of Tartu Raefond
STATUTE
1. Scholarship of Tartu Raefond
(1) The Scholarship of Tartu Raefond (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) is a Scholarship that is granted to students of the University of Tartu in cooperation with the city of Tartu and the University of Tartu Foundation.(2) A person whose place of residence in the population register of Estonia is the city of Tartu may apply for the Scholarship.
(3) The Scholarship is granted to support successful studies. The Scholarship may be applied for as of the third semester and the average grade of the applicant must be at least 4.0 in the respective level. Upon granting the Scholarship, the student's study results and the extracurricular activities related to the city of Tartu and the University of Tartu are taken into account.
(4) The amount of the Scholarship is 700 euros.
(5) Up to nine Scholarships are granted per year and at least one to a foreign student.
(1) The Award of Tartu Raefond (hereinafter referred to as the Award) is an Award granted to a lecturer, researcher, or a team of lecturers or researchers for joint work in cooperation with the city of Tartu and the University of Tartu Foundation.
(2) A person (persons) whose place of residence in the population register of Estonia is the city of Tartu may apply for the Award.
(3) The Award is granted to a lecturer, researcher, or a team of lecturers or researchers to recognise them for the results of outstanding research, study, or development related to the history, administration, infrastructure, and interests of the city of Tartu and also for developing the research and study in that field (hereinafter Work).
(4) The amount of the Award is 2,700 euros.
(5) One Award is granted per year.
3. Procedure for granting the Scholarship and the Award of Tartu Raefond
(1) The University of Tartu Foundation notifies the public about the possibility to apply for the Scholarship and the Award and about the terms and conditions of granting the Scholarship and the Award by ensuring sufficient time for submitting the required documents.(2) In order to apply for the Scholarship, the applicant must submit an application which includes the reasons for applying for the Scholarship and an overview of the extracurricular activities related to the city of Tartu and the University of Tartu. The unit where the student is studying shall provide an opinion on the applicant, if possible.
(3) In order to apply for the Award, the applicant must submit an application along with the reasons and add one copy of the research or an overview of the results of the study or development, or of the development of research and study. A letter of support is added to the application, if possible.
4. Committee for granting the Scholarship and the Award
(1) The grant of the Scholarship and the Award shall be decided each November by a six-member committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) in which the Mayor of Tartu and the Rector of the University of Tartu appoint an equal number of representatives.(2) Upon deciding to grant the Scholarship, the reasons mentioned in the applications, study results, opinion provided by the unit, and the applicant's extracurricular activities related to the city of Tartu and the University of Tartu shall be compared. The Scholarship is granted to the applicants who deserve to be recognised the most.
(3) Upon granting the Award, the Work performed by the applicants are compared and the influence thereof on the city of Tartu is assessed. The Award is granted to a person who performed the Work that deserves to be recognised the most.
(4) Upon the lack of suitable applications or applicants, the Committee has the right not to grant the Scholarship or the Award.
5. Handing over and payment of the Scholarship and the Award
(1) The recipients of the Scholarship and the Award are publicly announced in the course of celebrating the anniversary of the University of Tartu and the Scholarships and the Award are handed over by the Mayor of Tartu and the Rector of the University of Tartu at a ceremonial event celebrating the anniversary of the University of Tartu.(2) The Scholarship and the Award are paid after the handover ceremony.
